Well, I experienced a speed bump in getting approval for WLS. A "suspicious spot" was found on a routine mammogram screening back in Jan. I was called back for an ultrasound. Yep - spot still there. Next was the core biopsy. On Feb 22 I got the bad news - it was cancer. The good news is the biopsy showed it to be non-invasive, Stage 0. I had just had a ob-gyn appt a few weeks ago for a Pap smear and the breast exam by the doc didn't turn up anything. I had NO SYMPTOMS!
Anyway, I spent all weekend feeling sorry for myself and threw a great big pity party, complete with not even getting dressed all weekend. Monday morning when my alarm went off I got up, put my clothes on and went to work. Life goes on. I was determined to not let this stop me from having WLS and decided to pursue cancer treatment and WLS approval in parallel. I figured as slow as the WLS process is I would finish cancer treatment first LOL.
On March 31st I had surgery to remove the tumor. That was the day of my consult with Dr. Davis, so I rescheduled for April 21st. I almost delayed my surgery to keep that appt but my DH wouldn't hear of it. The pathology came back with good news - they got all of it and it was still non-invasive, Stage 0. If it had been invasive it would have been Stage 2 cancer because of the size of the tumor (~ 2 cm).
I start 5 weeks of radiation on Monday, April 28 which puts me finishing up on June 2.
